March 2009

On Friday night David and I got to hear some experimental music at the ND performing arts center. Here’s the review in the local paper. I didn’t enjoy myself quite as much as the reviewer, but we had a good time. The boys stayed with some friends for a few hours and played hard.

On Saturday morning we went to a health fair on campus. Andrew and Jonathan got to climb on a fire truck and they got lots of stickers and a lead test.

Before we came home for naps we watched some undergraduates on campus playing their version of Scottish highlander games. Really not as exciting as it sounds. Mostly undergrads dressed up in green togas and Braveheart facepaint.

On Sunday it rained and snowed. We stayed in the house.

Check out this article on having children. We followed–inadvertently, I should add–this model of having kids before our finances and careers were established–and before our bodies gave out of old age. We sure like how things worked out for us!

Also check out this unusual marriage proposal.

Today we begin an occasional series featuring A&J singing a new song. We’ll try to teach them a song each week. This week: “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

I was hoping that officially turning one year old would instantly mature Benjamin and he would start sleeping all night. Unfortunately last night was the worst we’ve had in months. Maybe he is realizing how fast life goes by and is feeling insecure about all of the changes in his future. Maybe he read the Sappy Birthday Post yesterday and wanted to remind me not to be too sentimental about my baby growing up. Maybe he’s worried about the economy. Maybe his stomach hurt. Maybe he’s teething.

But for whatever reason, neither Ben nor I got a lot of sleep last night. He cried so hard, poor kid, even after held him and offered him some milk. He finally quieted down when I walked around with him for awhile and let him stuff his face with animal crackers.

Here we are around 2:30 am mid-snack:

And I’m just going to let you believe that I was feeling as peaceful and patient as I look in that picture. . .

Ben seemed quite happy during the day today, so hopefully everyone’s sleep will be more restful tonight.
