It’s a warm, humid day in South Bend. All three boys are sleeping: Andrew and Jonathan in their cribs upstairs, Benjamin in his swing in the living room. Lisa is working on her thesis in the study. I’m formatting my dissertation in the living room while I watch a PBS documentary on the U.S. Marines to combat the tedium of inserting tilda and accent marks.
We enjoyed visits from Rene and Mafra this morning and from Marty and Hannah this afternoon (thanks for lunch! and the visit to the farmers market). We plan to spend the evening in the yard planting herbs, spreading mulch, and putting together a sandbox.

Benjamin has gotten much better at smiling in the last few days.

Whew–we’re back in South Bend with our infant and two sick and whiny toddlers. Traveling isn’t so much fun anymore. Among the highlights of our trip:
- a backyard barbecue with the Schraders
- seeing lots of friends at the Rosedale graduation
- meeting Malachi and seeing all the Freeds
- seeing Benjamin smile for the first time

We arrived in Ohio today in time for a nice visit to Rosedale and a meeting of the CMC Historical Committee. We hope to fit in a visit with Ryan and Kris, a graduation, and a Miller reunion into the rest of the weekend. The boys enjoyed some good gamma and gampa time tonight.
