November 2007

Yesterday the leaf truck came by to pick up all of the dead leaves from our lawn. The boys were very excited and watched the whole operation from their perch on the couch. These pictures are just of Jonathan, but only because Andrew was so excited that he wouldn’t sit still long enough for me to get a picture that wasn’t blurry.

Our small group met at our house on Monday night. The boys enjoyed ransacking Christina’s purse before they had to go to bed. David enjoyed showing off his fundamentalist collection. Joel and Natalie enjoyed the coffee.

Here is the second installment of contraception-NFP “debate.” These videos, spoofs on the PC-Mac advertisements, were produced by Catholic seminarians from Saginaw, Mich., currently studying at the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Here is the second video:

I biked to school at 6:15 a.m. the past two mornings and played ultimate frisbee last night at 7 p.m. It’s cold out there!

For a humorous take on the contraception-Natural Family Planning debate raging in conservative Mennonite and Catholic circles these days, check out this video:

I know it’s quite early to have Christmas decorations up. Every year I’m slightly more irritated with stores that haul their holiday merchandise out closer and closer to Halloween. But I really love the season, and we’ve gotten in the habit of putting decorations up right after Thanksgiving so we have time to enjoy them before we head off on our annual expedition across the continent. The process took about twice as long this year (thanks to the two little “helpers”), but they really enjoyed themselves, and it was fun to watch them ooh and aah (literally) over the lights and sparkle-y stuff. They’ve only knocked the tree over once so far.

We’re finished renting our house out for the year. Last weekend the Richards from Pennsylvania stayed at our place for three nights. They left our house in mint condition–and even washed the towels they used! They also left a couple days’ worth of leftovers for us. And after they got home, they sent us three slide shows of their trip to South Bend. It was weird but cool to see photo of them having a great time in our house and on campus.

Notre Dame might not have done well this year, but we made out like bandits. We found some great renters; they were all very kind to us and our home. And we just sent in a large check to our mortgage company for the amount we earned from the three weekends.
